Journal Entry
There are places that welcome you before a single word is spoken.
You know them by the smoke rising from the chimney.
By herbs drying from the rafters.
By the smell of bread that someone has already decided to share.
I never intended to stay in Hearthwyn.
The weather chose differently.
An old keeper offered me a chair near the fire and placed supper before me without asking my name.
Roasted garlic.
Fresh herbs gathered from the garden.
Nothing extravagant.
Nothing wasted.
Yet I remembered that meal long after I had forgotten the road that led me there.
I returned many times over the years.
Not because I needed more garlic.
Because every visit taught me that simple things become extraordinary when they are prepared with patience and shared without expectation.
So I gathered what I could.
Roasted garlic first.
The thyme that grew beside the stone path.
Parsley bright with the morning dew.
Rosemary that carried the scent of the hills whenever the wind turned.
A little onion from the keeper's cellar.
Enough pepper to warm the conversation.
Only enough salt to remind each ingredient why it belonged.
Years of wandering.
A lifetime of gathering.
One blend worth sharing.
