Journey I

Ember Hollow
Kindled Honey

Not enough to burn. Only enough to remember.

Journal Entry

There is a valley the old maps barely mention.

Most who pass it remember only the smoke. They never notice what rises with it.

I returned because the air carried something I could never quite follow home.

Not the scent of burning wood.

Something softer.

Honey.

Not from hives hidden in orchards, but from wild places where the bees chose flowers no one planted.

The sweetness never stood alone.

It drifted through pine, settled beside warm stone, and lingered where yesterday's fire had surrendered to ash.

I gathered what I could.

The honey first.

Then the warmth that remained after the flames were gone.

A little cayenne.

A little thyme beneath my boots.

A whisper of garlic and onion from a hearth where strangers insisted I stay until morning.

Each journey brought only one piece.

Never enough.

Years passed before I understood that I had never been searching for honey at all.

I had been searching for the feeling of arriving somewhere that already felt like home.

So I brought this Journey back instead.

Not enough to burn.
Only enough to remember.
